When I was at AGPC, on Friday, I had a chance to talk a little with my PC. I mentioned to her that I had heard that they had changed the box for Marisol to a regular AGOT box. She said that they may have changed it for awhile, while they worked out a problem they'd had with the box tops being too tight to open. But she said that now the problem has been worked out, and they are now back to the normal Marisol boxes.
I can vouch for the fact that the older boxes were impossible to open!! I wanted to check several boxes, to get a Marisol with a more squishy body. But I had to eventually give up. I could NOT get any of the boxes open. I even tried several different displays, to see if it was just a particular group of boxes, but they were all just as bad. No matter how much physical force I used, I could NOT get any of them open! I finally got one open, and decided to not try any others, for fear that I might rip one of the boxes in the process. As it ended up, I did rip this box top, when I opened it yesterday.
I suggested to my PC that I thought that the plastic insert for the Marisol book was what was keeping the top from coming off. It had a lip that went over the top of the box bottom, and it seemed to be catching on the box top and keeping it from coming off. My PC said that there may have also been some part of the combo that was taped in such a way as to make it impossible to open. She also said that maybe the top was assembled around the box bottom--sort of wrapped around it too tightly, and glued together that way.
In any case, the new boxes do open with no effort at all. They are AGOT-like boxes with a Marisol seal on the front, below a window that Marisol's face looks through. Have the Marisol boxes ever been different than that, in appearance?

I got mine right after they were released and it's a plain blue AGT box with a window for the doll's face to show through and a seal that says Marisol on it. I think you're right about the lip on the bookholder, though.

My Marisol shipped in March and she has the regular AGOT box. I REALLY wanted the Marisol box with the window...oh well. Can't have everything.

I found the AGT boxes impossible to open.

My Marisol came in a regular AGT box, and if I remember right, THAT was hard to get open. I, too, wanted the Marisol box with the window, but at least I have the doll!
